Hand sanitizer is one of the most purchased product in the markets nowadays, even before the coronavirus spread. Washing your hands with soap is always your best option, but if you have no soap and water nearby, hand sanitizer is your greatest alternative. Commercial hand sanitizer is hard to find and becoming expensive lately. Therefore, you may have to focus on making your own hand sanitizer. It is actually a very simple process and it’s also customizable to satisfy the individual taste.
How To Make Hand Sanitizer
Find the required ingredients. This sanitizer nearly replicates the commercial kind, it has no bad smell and no chemicals. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 99% rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol – 2/3 cup
- aloe vera gel – 1/3 cup
- 7-10 drops of essential oil (Cinnamon, lavender, peppermint)
- Bowl for mixing
- Tablespoon
- Storage container (plastic one)
- Funnel
Begin with pouring the aloe vera gel and alcohol in the mixing bowl, and mix the ingredients with the tablespoon, to get a smooth mixture. For thin mixture add one more tablespoon of alcohol or for thicker mixture add an additional spoon of aloe vera.
Next, add 7-10 essential oil drops while stirring the mixture with the spoon. If you like a stronger scent, add a few more drops. Lavender, cinnamon and peppermint will provide extra antiseptic properties to your hand sanitizer. If you prefer stronger scent you can add 2-3 extra drops.
Take a funnel and pour the mixture into the plastic container. Fill it up, and screw the lid and that’s it. Perhaps a smaller bottle will work better for carrying the sanitizer bottle with you. If you make too much just get an extra container or just save the leftover in a jar.
